It is a type of fiber with a thickness of less than 10 micrometers (1µm = 1/1000mm, 0.001 mm) made of nylon and polyester. In towels it is usually proportionally 80% Polyester, 20% Polyamide. Microfiber is characterized by a star-shaped fiber with a nylon core surrounded by polyester. Thanks to this fiber structure, this microfiber is extremely absorbent.
